I am a father, husband and fitness enthusiast with realistic expectations. I am not a genetically gifted person when it comes to my body composition and have been through all the ups and downs and fad diets that I feel like a majority of people have tried or considered. My genetics tend to lean more towards the hefty side, but I was a scrawny kid growing up who had a hard time putting on muscle. In my late twenties I discovered that your good metabolism doesn’t always stick around, but I still had a hard time putting on lean mass. After years of doing some things right and some things wrong I now would describe myself as a fairly muscular person who tends to carry a little body fat (10-18% on purpose). I consider myself more of a natural bodybuilder as my focus for myself is adding lean muscle mass through carefully calculated cycles of mass (bulk – although I don’t prefer that word) and cuts (which looks like yo-yo dieting from the outside in). I have no inclination to step onto a bodybuilding stage (respect to those who do) or run triathlons, I simply want to be healthy and look/feel good. I started my fitness journey after my father passed away far too young from poor fitness and obesity related issues.
Fitness and nutrition is truly my passion and I became very tired of seeing underwear models on steroids giving out “one-size-fits-all” advice or bad advice in general. I have nothing against those who decide to take steroids, but I do have something against those who takes steroids and then try to tell the rest of the non-steroid world how to get their “dream body” and/or subsequently lie about taking steroids. I have never, and will never take steroids or any other “unnatural” product (i.e. estrogen blockers, SARMS, etc.). I have been helping family, friends and acquaintances meet their fitness goals and improve their physique and overall health for years and my unique background in the general medical field (I am a general medicine/hospitalist physician assistant) has helped me fuel this passion.
I believe what sets me apart from many (not all) of the other fitness and nutrition blogs out there is that I am NOT trying to sell you something. If you see me mention any products on this blog it is because I truly believe in their efficacy and, at this time, I am not being paid by any of these companies nor am I a paid spokesperson. I feel like this will help build your trust in me and you can see that I am giving you my truly honest opinions. Just like in politics, money tends to taint the truth and I don’t want that for this blog. On that same note, there will likely be ads near the periphery of this website/blog, these are only there to offset the cost of maintaining the website and do not necessarily reflect products or services I am endorsing or recommending.
I truly believe that good advice regarding fitness and nutrition should be free to all and I don’t intend to monetize my knowledge at the expense of my readers who come seeking help.
This blog is just a place for me to put “pen to paper”, if you will, and reach a larger audience to maximize my efforts to truly help people. I am hopeful that this Blog will become a non-judgmental community of people helping people with their fitness and health goals through filtered advice and recommendations. You won’t see me posting videos of myself shirtless driving a fancy car telling you how to make your life perfect because there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to fitness and nutrition or life. To that same subject I will say now that trolls will not be tolerated on this blog. We all have our own opinions, they may differ, but keep it civil and constructive or say goodbye.
I don’t know everything and I will never pretend to. I have done countless hours of research and am trained and experienced in general medicine and intend to offer up what I do know to the general public and learn along with you on some topics. I would like to encourage all of you to comment or email (once again…keep it civil and constructive) so that I can gather topic ideas for future posts and help answer questions. My blogs will be fairly general at first and gradually get more specific as time goes on and I retouch on subjects we have already visited.
